Memories
Uncle Sjef sent us the following childhood memories of his father. It presents us with a character, always energetically handling the daily worries.

Dads black shoes were worn at the heels. They needed repair! He fetched a needle, looked for suitable thread and got down to business. The result was a pair of repaired shoes, only ..., the thread was green.
When dad had a cold, out came the bottle of Iodine and a long feather. He rubbed his chest and back as far as he could reach and looked like a half Indian.
One day, dad burned his leg at the smithy. When he got home, he opened the hearth and grabbed a handful of ashes, rubbed it on the wound and stated "This way the wound will get a scab faster".
Dad got a new house. The floorboards desperately needed a paintjob. So at one night he got down to it, but Sjeng and Sjef, ignorant of what happened that night, got out of bed the next morning, both sticking with their bare feet to the fresh paint.
